Whatever those things are. You know them. Everyone in the blogsphere is blogging about them. All the commercials on TV now are about getting fit, joining gyms, new Wii games about fitness. Financial commercials about getting your money straight. They are all out there.. This post isnt so much about resolutions for me.. its more about "what the heck am I doing this year".
The past 3 years were lived in such a chaotic state that we didnt really do much besides live our lives day to day. Sometimes only hour by hour. So its strange now to actually be able to feel like to have time to be able to plan things.. to put things on the calendar and know they will most likely happen.
So that leaves me again... "what the heck am I doing this year". This is the first year that I can do something.. maybe find a new hobby, volunteer work, I dunno. But that's the thing.. I dunno. I used to run back in the day before kids.. and Karen and I used to do it together so I think I am gonna try and get back into that. We were talking and I think that it would be something good.. It some attainable goals. Running some races.. then working up for some bigger runs. 10K's, and maybe a half marathon. I am excited to start reading more. I ordered Searching for God Knows What by Donald Miller. Which looks like it should be a good read.
So there we are.. I think I may have a good start of what I may enjoy.. Now I just need to DO IT... DO IT... DO IT. Enough talking.. and just start it.
So what the heck are you doing this year?

Great post! I started my 'resolutions' back in October, and it's been good, because New Years has always just been a mental block for me. It came before I was mentally prepared and then I'd already fallen off of my unrealistic resolutions by the end of the month.
Found a 5K race on the 23rd... it's small compared to what a lot of others are doing, but I need to start small and see where it goes. Reading is another thing I need to do more of. I'm not a reader by nature. So this is a year of doing things I haven't done before or am not good at doing I guess. It's a scary thing to be out of your comfort zone, but it's all I've ever known and that needs to change.
searching is an excellent book. read that a couple years ago. next you can get his new one a million miles. went to see him and he's great.
Dan
I hope you can find some new areas of life to explore and dig into. Im making not so much resolutions, but investments into my life and others this year.
@Nathan.. Dude your a smart man.. starting your resolutions in October.. Good luck with ur races.. Im trying to find a early 5k race to sign up for.
@Dan. Maybe before I buy anymore books I should check our your extensive library.
@Kerry.. Thats a good idea to look at it as an investment.. and not really as a resolution.
Hey. came across your blog from jackalopekid's site. All I can say is that even though I don't know you, your posts have been such an inspiration. I am praying for your family in this new year.
as far as resolutions...
I really want to soak in the Word this year and have a closer and more intimate relationship with Christ.
..I'm going to start running...doing a 5K and build myself up from there. (that's the plan)
o you should definitely check Francis Chan's books..I'm currently reading "Forgotten God." Chan gets at the core!
God Bless,
Jon
@Jon thanks for stopping by man. I appreciate your kind words. It looks like there are a lot of us who are starting to run. To bad we are all over the country or we could have a running club ..
@Ryan, Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words. I really appreciate it. As far as the running goes today I found some 5k's I am gonna shoot for in March. and go from there. I think it will be good to get back into again.
I wish I could take credit from the design of my blog.. but sadly I can't. My wife Karen put it together for me along with our son's website www.gavinowens.com She has some mad skillz..
I've been thinking the same thing over the past few weeks leading up to the New Year. My biggest problem over the past few years is that I have a hard time "finishing". I will start lots of stuff, but never complete it.
So my goal this year is to finish. To get to my goal weight, which is losing almost 45 pounds. To read my bible the whole way through. To finish the books I have started. To be more intentional about relationships. To be an intentional father and husband.
I applaud you Adam... so lets get out there and "finish".
(This must be a reason why I find Paul so inspirational. He always talked about finishing the race)
